Career Highlights
Overview
Steve Griffis is an IT project manager with twelve years experience managing strategic software projects for Fortune 500 companies. For the past ten years, Steve has specialized in the global implementation and upgrade of Oracle E-Business Suite and PeopleSoft Enterprise resource planning (ERP) applications for financial, human capital, and retail merchandise operations management.
Steve is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP) and a member of the Project Management Institute (PMI) since 2006. He is a member of the San Francisco Bay Area Chapter of PMI, and the PMI Information Systems Specific Interest Group (PMI-ISSIG).
ERP Project Management
Steve led a year-long effort for Robert Half International (RHI)to upgrade PeopleSoft HCM from V8 to V9 and merge data from a wholly-owned subsidiary into the corporate instance. In addition, the project scope included a platform migration to Linux and VMWare, introduction of Employee and Manager Self-Service, integrated State W-4 tax forms from Symmetry, and providing Active Directory single sign-on and self-service internet access.
Prior to his work at RHI, Steve began his five-year tenure at Gap Inc. as a key contributor to the New Global Financials Project, a three-year global implementation of Oracle Financials, where he managed the project plan and SOX deliverables as a member of the Project Management Office. He then served as the overall project manager for Gap's PeopleSoft HCM 8.2 upgrade, a year-long effort that included implementation of Enterprise Payroll for North America for 140,000 employees, LDAP integration, and deployment of PeopleSoft's Enterprise Portal for Employee and Manager Self-service. Steve also led the implementation of Oracle Retail Price for the Gap and Old Navy brands that contributed significantly to a 40% increase in profit in the first quarter in production
During his four years atFranklin Templeton Investments, he was the project manager responsible for delivering the high-availability infrastructure for Franklin's initial global deployment of PeopleSoft Financials and HCM 7.5. Steve then served as the overall project manager for the upgrade to Version 8 for both products, and later managed the PeopleSoft production support team.
Other Strategic Projects & Project Management Office Initiatives
While at Gap Steve also lead the development of a new factory audit system for the Corporate Social Responsibility team, fulfilling a public commitment by Gap's Board of Directors in their 2004 annual Social Responsibility report. Steve also managed the deployment of a new SOX compliance software package, and delivered new Business Continuity Planning processes for the PMO. At Franklin Templeton, he led the effort to ensure compliance and certification with international regulatory agencies as part of the Year 2000 Readiness Effort.
Steve's first project management assignment was with former PriceWaterhouse colleagues at IBIS Consulting -- merging mid-project with Proxicom -- developing Pacific Gas & Electric's Gas Transportation System (GTS), a web-enabled custom client/server application used for online natural gas trading. GTS was the company's largest development project in both 1997 and 1998. Reporting to a senior project manager, Steve developed and maintained the project plan, and facilitated conference room pilots and user walkthroughs. The project was delivered on time to meet a regulatory deadline, and was under budget.
At PriceWaterhouse Management Consulting Servcices (MCS) (now PriceWaterhouseCoopers Consulting) Steve managed deliverables production, signoffs, project plan updates and status reports adhering to PWC's System Management Methodology for a custom client/server application (GASTRACC) to schedule and track gas shipments at Pacific Gas & Electric Co (PG&E).
IT Consulting, Systems Integration & Computer-based Publishing Operations
Steve later worked as Operations Manager at PriceWaterhouse Consulting, where he managed the practice's San Francisco technical proposal department and administrative staff for PW's 70-person management consulting group -- including telecommunications, business process re-engineering and client/server practices. He led the migration of Macintosh-based publishing system to a Windows-based publishing environment, improving proposal content, production quality and turnaround times, and introduced color publishing technology to the practice.
Before becoming involved in project management, Steve had an interest in an emerging technology platform to integrate automated voice response, web, fax and e-mail. He started a small systems integration business to provide system integration services for Edify (now part of Convergys) customers, competing with ComputerLand and other national resellers. He became a certified Edify developer, and his company became an authorized Compaq ProLiant and Hewlett-Packard NetServer reseller and installer, providing over 100 Edify systems to Fortune 1000 and government clients.
With the introduction of the Apple Macintosh in 1984, Steve became interested in personal computing and desktop publishing. He subsequently created the world's first self-service desktop publishing center using the Apple Macintosh and the first commercial installation of PhoneNet. He later co-founded a small business providing on-demand publishing using the Macintosh. He completed the Stanford Publishing Course in the summer of 1986.
Retail, Distribution, and Advertising Operations
Steve began his work career while in high school, working part-time for IBM at their Office Products Division distribution center in South San Francisco, CA. He later became an assistant manager at a local clothing retailer, and then joined a Silicon Valley advertising agency as a junior account executive. He left the ad agency to work as a freelance production assistant creating and staging corporate events for new product introductions, trade shows and corporate meetings for Silicon Valley companies including Atari, Activision, and Apple.

While at Franklin Templeton and Gap I've proudly participated in community service projects including the Franklin Templeton Annual Memorial Run for 9/11 Families, and served as the PMO coordinator for Gap's Adopt-a-Family holiday giving program in 2008.
