Project Management and Consulting Services
With over twelve years of project management experience on projects large and small, I provide your project team with leadership to deliver your project to meet business needs, on time, on budget, and with quality.
I'm a hands-on project manager who has directed and successfully managed full lifecycle, highly complex, multi-year technology projects with very aggressive timelines and budgets from $2MM to $28MM. I'm able to work under limited supervision managing a large-sized project of high complexity and risk, or a combination of smaller efforts.
Skilled in consensus building, teamwork, and motivation, I'm comfortable working with executive management and leading a diverse team of consultants and employees representing multiple organizations in a dynamic, visible, and changing project environment. You may need a full-time project manager to work from start to finish on a project, or just need help in one or two critical areas.
Certified as a Project Management Professional (PMP), I am also a member of the Project Management Institute (PMI), the PMI Information Systems Special Interest Group, the PMI Agile and Consulting Communities of Practice, and a member of the San Francisco Bay Area chapter of PMI.

Project Management
Delivering projects on time, on budget, to scope, with quality and business value
For the last ten years, I've specialized in the implementation and upgrade of strategic Oracle and PeopleSoft Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP)software applications for financial, human capital and retail merchandise management at Fortune 500 companies. I also have experience delivering package and custom applications in a corporate setting.
Project Initiation
To initiate a project, I lead the formation, review and approval of the business case and, if needed, a feasability study to determine if the business case can be met. I lead the drafting of the project charter, the staffing of the project team, and the formation of the project office if needed.
Project Planning
The planning activities include drafting a formal project management plan that describes how the project will be managed, along with a detailed resource plan, a financial plan for both labor and capital expenditures, and formal plans to manage risk, acceptance, communications and procurement. These plans are typically reviewed and approved prior to project execution.
Project Execution
During the execution of the project (requirements, design, development, testing and deployment) I manage time (labor); costs; quality; changes to scope, schedule or budget; risks and issues. I also manage the procurement activity and facilitate acceptance of key deliverables and project milestones; lead regulatory compliance activities, and manage team and executive communications.
Project Closure
At the end of the project I manage the administrative closure of the project, and participate in the project review.

Project Management Consulting
Project Implementation
Many organizations find value in having a consulting project manager on board to provide project oversight that is independent from the vendor or system integrator in charge of the upgrade. I bring my experience working alongside many of the Oracle "tier one" implementation providers to help clients get maximum return on their project investment.
Infrastructure
Working with the solution architect and infrastructure architects and engineers, I help drive the design, review, approval and installation of the new systems.
Project Audit
When a project runs into trouble, management may want an independent review of where the project stands from a project management perspective, taking into consideration the projects structure, approach, timeline, milestones, deliverables and governance. I provide a structured review of the project, prepare and deliver a report for management.
Regulatory Compliance
I work with the project team, PMO and stakeholders to help facilitate the SOX audit process and deliver a findings-free audit report.
Cutover Management
I work with the project team, stakeholders, and management to plan, rehearse and execute a successful cutover to production.
Project Methodology
For companies implementing the MPMM project management methodology,I help clients procure, install, customize and deploy a solution tailored to their organization's needs.

What is an Audit?
A project audit is an independent review and examination of records and activites to assess the adequacy of system controls, to ensure compliance with established policies and operational procedures, and to recommend necessary changes in controls, policies, or procedures.
As an external auditor, I function as independent staff assigned to assess and evaluate an organization's systems of internal control or to perform other agreed-upon evaluations.
Types of Audit
Informal
- New Project Manager
- No indication that project is in trouble
- Need to take stock of where the project really is as opposed to where it is
reported to be
- Can apply same criteria as fromal audit but likely no need for depth and breadth
of a formal report
Formal
- Project is in trouble
- Sponsor agrees that an audit is needed
- Sensitivities are high
- Need to be able to prove conclusions via substantiated evidence
When to Do an Audit
- Change in Project Managers
- Project in Trouble
- Post Implementation Review
- Random Audit
Audit Circumstances
- Project Manager was removed
- Project Manager quit
- Delivery issues
- Budget/Contract issues
- Dysfunctional Project Teams
- Client/Customer complaints

Most ERP and many package implementations touch a company's financial footprint and are subject to compliance with the federal Sarbanes Oxley Act, also known as SOX.
Typically a project manager is the point-person to work with internal and external auditors to provide substantiation that the application is compliant with all controls.
Regulatory Compliance Experience
Led the effort to ensure software compliance and certification with international regulatory agencies as part of the Year 2000 Readiness Effort.
Franklin Templeton recognized me with this certificate of appreciation for leading the effort to obtain software compliance and certification from international regulatory agencies as part of Franklin's Year 2000 Readiness Effort.
Reviewed SOX deliverables for a global Oracle Financials implementation; prepared audit package; no significant findings
Reviewed SOX deliverables for a PeopleSoft HCM and Payroll implemmentation for 140,000 employees; prepared audit package ; no significant findings.
While at Gap Inc. on the New Global Financials Project I received this NGF "Lizzy" Award for "the most functional specs reviewed" from the program sponsor. There were hundreds of specs - the reviews and gathering all of the approvals took place over several months.
Reviewed SOX deliverables for a PeopleSoft HCM upgrade for 15,000 employees; prepared audit package; no findings
Cutover and Release Management
For a large, complex ERP or package implementation there can be significant strains on resources as the team prepares and executes the cutover to a production state.
With proper planning, logistics, facilitation and practice, the risk to success of the cutover activity can be significantly mitigated.
Cutover and Release Experience
As part of the global rollout of PeopleSoft at Franklin Templeton, managed the cutover for over a dozen global PeopleSoft Financials and HCM releases for Franklin and subsidaries Fiduciary Trust, Franklin Templeton Band and Trust, and Franklin Capital Corp.
